Technology Services

The Dinwiddie County Public Schools Technology Services Department provides the digital infrastructure, systems, devices, applications, and technical support necessary to keep schools connected and ready for teaching and learning.

As an essential part of the Department of Operations, Technology Services supports students, teachers, administrators, and staff across the division by maintaining reliable access to technology and digital resources. The department helps ensure that technology strengthens instruction, communication, collaboration, school operations, and access to information.

Technology Services staff focus on reliability, security, innovation, customer service, efficiency, fiscal responsibility, and continuous improvement. Their work helps provide the dependable technology environment necessary for students and employees to succeed in an increasingly digital learning and working environment.

Department Leadership

The Technology Services Department is led by Timothy Ampy and assisted by Hannah Burnette. Together, they coordinate technology services across the division and support students, employees, schools, and departments with reliable, secure, and effective technology systems.

What We Do

The Technology Services Department provides leadership and support in the following areas:

  • Technology Infrastructure – Maintains the networks, servers, wireless connectivity, internet access, and other infrastructure necessary to support reliable technology services throughout the school division.
  • Student and Employee Devices – Supports the deployment, maintenance, repair, replacement, and lifecycle management of computers, mobile devices, and other technology used by students and employees.
  • Technical Support – Provides troubleshooting, assistance, and technical support to schools, departments, students, and employees.
  • Instructional Technology Support – Helps ensure that teachers and students have reliable access to the technology tools and digital resources necessary to support teaching and learning.
  • Applications and Information Systems – Supports division software, digital platforms, applications, and systems used for instruction, communication, administration, and school operations.
  • Cybersecurity and Data Protection – Implements and maintains safeguards designed to protect division technology systems, networks, accounts, and data from unauthorized access, disruption, and cyber threats.
  • Account and Access Management – Supports user accounts, permissions, authentication, and access to division technology systems and digital resources.
  • Classroom and School Technology – Supports classroom instructional technology, audiovisual equipment, interactive displays, printers, and other technology used throughout school facilities.
  • Technology Planning and Procurement – Assists with evaluating, purchasing, implementing, and replacing technology in a manner that supports division priorities and responsible use of resources.
  • System Reliability and Continuity – Monitors critical technology systems and responds to outages, equipment failures, connectivity issues, and other disruptions that may affect teaching, learning, communication, or division operations.

  • Technology is led by Director Timothy Ampy.  Technology Department provides technological training, guidance, service and information to school personnel and school administrators. This enables Dinwiddie County Public Schools to function more efficiently and assists individual schools as they use technology to improve the teaching and learning process for their students.

    Our department works closely with our team of Innovation Specialist which consists of Amanda Booe, Christine (Pam) Ferrell, Jarrett Munford, Latia Pollard, and Caitlyn Raikes.

    The Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium (SVRTC) held their first in-person awards banquet since the pandemic on March 22, 2023, at Longwood University. There were 105 people in attendance from 20 participating school divisions. In addition to many 2023 awardees, Dinwiddie County Public Schools was awarded one of the most competitive awards, The Division Leadership award, to recognize advances in technology in the educational setting for the 2022-2023 school year under the direction of Director Timothy Ampy.

    Dinwiddie County Public Schools has previously won this competitive award at the 10th annual SVRTC Technology Awards banquet on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Longwood University. Over 140 SVRTC members from twenty-two school divisions were in attendance. Of the fifty-five awards presented to SVRTC members who have promoted technology in their divisions, the two most competitive awards were the Division Leadership awards.
