The Department of Human Resources supports the people who make Dinwiddie County Public Schools' work possible. From recruiting and hiring talented employees to supporting professional growth, employee relations, benefits, and workforce planning, the department works to ensure every school and department is staffed with committed professionals prepared to serve students with excellence.

Human Resources partners with employees and leaders across the division to create a positive, professional, and supportive workplace where employees feel valued, informed, and equipped to succeed. Our work is grounded in service, fairness, professionalism, and a commitment to attracting, developing, and retaining an exceptional workforce.

Responsibilities

The Department of Human Resources provides leadership and support in the following areas:

  • Recruitment and Hiring – Leads efforts to attract, recruit, select, and onboard highly qualified employees for instructional, administrative, operational, and support positions throughout the division.
  • Employee Onboarding and Orientation – Supports new employees as they transition into Dinwiddie County Public Schools by providing information, resources, and guidance needed for a successful start.
  • Employee Relations – Provides guidance and support to employees and supervisors regarding workplace concerns, professional expectations, conflict resolution, performance matters, and personnel procedures.
  • Licensure and Certification – Assists licensed employees with Virginia licensure requirements, renewals, endorsements, provisional licenses, and other credentialing matters.
  • Compensation and Classification – Supports the administration of salary schedules, position classifications, supplements, and compensation practices designed to remain equitable, competitive, and aligned with division needs.
  • Benefits Administration – Coordinates employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement, leave programs, and other benefit offerings, while helping employees understand and access available resources.
  • Performance Management and Evaluation – Supports the implementation of employee evaluation systems, professional growth plans, improvement processes, and other practices that promote accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Professional Growth and Leadership Development – Works with division leaders to support opportunities for employee learning, career development, succession planning, and leadership growth.
  • Personnel Records and Compliance – Maintains employee personnel records and supports compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, School Board policies, and employment requirements.
  • Leave and Attendance Support – Provides guidance regarding employee leave, attendance, Family and Medical Leave, accommodations, and other related personnel matters.
  • Workforce Planning and Staffing – Collaborates with schools and departments to identify staffing needs, monitor vacancies, support position allocation, and plan for current and future workforce needs.
  • Employee Recognition and Retention – Supports initiatives that celebrate employee contributions, strengthen engagement, and help retain talented professionals across the school division.
